Mindy's Movie Reviews

A blog that went from discussing about the writing life to reviews of movies

Happy Holidays

I know this is a bit late but I'm hoping everyone had or are still having a nice holiday. I hope Santa was good to you all this Christmas and if you don't celebrate Christmas then I hope you are relaxing and enjoying your time off.

If you are planning on going out for New Years Eve please do me a favour and drink responsibly. Get a designated driver, get a taxi, go on the bus or train (that's if they're not striking in your area right now...sorry Ottawa). Just please do not be impaired while driving.

On a last note I can't wait for the new year to begin. I have a few resolutions that I probably will break by March 2009 but what the heck. I'll make them anyways. I'll post them up once the New Year comes around. Enjoy the rest of your holidays everyone!!

NaNoWriMo Update #2

It's almost the end of National Novel Writing Month and I apologize for not keeping up to date with what I have been up to this entire month. It's been a busy one full of writing and all sorts of things on the side. As of right now I am around 30 000 words and I have 7 days left to write at least 50 000 words. I know I'll complete it. I've done it before and there's nothing stopping me from doing it again.

My novel which I'm calling it 'Or Else' is turning out to be a pretty good story in my view. I didn't like it much when I first started but it has grown on me. I'm almost at the climatic part and I'm beginning to get anxious to write it, hopefully very soon. Anyways I better get back to writing. I really want that wonderful certificate saying I wrote 50 000 in a month, badly hehe.

Bye for now.

NaNoWriMo Update #1

Hey everyone

National Novel Writing Month just started on the 1st and already I'm quite involved in writing my new novel. As of this morning I have wrote 4000 words and I am starting today's daily word count of mine which should be around 2000 words on top of my total. With only 4000 words written, I am already loving what I have wrote. I really believe this new novel of mine will be interesting in the end. I am really enjoying it and I believe I might of found a suitable title for it which is "Or Else".

As each day goes by it might become harder or it might become easier for me to finish this novel. Now I must leave you darlings to go write my way to the 50 000 word goal.

Update

Hey everyone

Here's my update on my writing life. I received an email from NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) about a free one book published deal that was organized for the winners of NaNoWriMo from last year. I am definitely going to take them on their offer after doing much review on the company that is helping out.

Before I do that however, NaNoWriMo 2008 is just around the corner and I have been doing nothing but planning for my novel this year. I don't want to talk about the plot quite yet until after Nano is done but I will tell you that so far I really like my idea and see myself doing well with this.

Besides that, I have come to a complete stand still on my play that I'm trying to write for my tutor with Winghill which is stressing me out. Hopefully I'll be able to break out of it soon.

So that's all for now my lovelies. Please leave a comment about how you're doing and what not.

Progress

So yay for me. I am so close to finishing my novel that I mentioned in my last post. I have about 20 pages left to go which is really not a lot once I get into the groove of things. I'm really trying not to think about editing any time soon. It's the most awful part of being a writer, but it has to be done. I might just find an editor to help me out (I am pretty bad at determining if any of my grammar is any good).

So yes I must mention that I did receive comments back from my tutor. She said she liked my play thus far and that I'm off to a good start (this was sent back to me about 2 months ago lol). I'm supposed to write five more pages which I have already wrote 3 so I'm almost done. It has took me 2 months almost to write these 5 pages all because I was stuck on something a character of mine said and I didn't know how to have another character respond to it. I'm determined to get it done!

So yea, I think I'm coming along quite nicely when it comes to my writing career. I just need to get my arse in gear to get published which hopefully will be very soon. I'm thinking about taking more courses with screenwriting through a college online which should be loads of fun. I'm also participating in a free writers conference for an entire week in October. On top of that NaNoWriMo is going to begin in November and I CAN'T WAIT!

So that's all I have to say about my writing stuff right now. Drop me a line and tell me what you're up to.

Talk to you soon.

The Long Process Begins

As mentioned before I am in a writing school called Winghill Writing School. My tutor and I decided to do a big writing project together which was going to be my first ever stage play (as I just can't get enough of theatre I thought meh why not try writing for it). Yesterday I handed in my first scene and let me tell you, stage plays are hard to write. I've been writing screenplays for a long while and find I can write them with ease and I really thought a stage play would be similar but it's NOT! I have to constantly remind myself "Okay Mindy, this has to be done on a stage and I cannot have anything that needs some sort of graphics designer to create a character/scene on his/her computer". I reread my first scene over and over and over and over and well you get the picture. I just did not know if it was stage worthy and after basically memorizing the whole scene I decided to send it to my tutor for her to read. FYI I am a perfectionist when it comes to me sending things in to people especially writing and definitely music (i'm a musician/lyricist as well). I just can't help it.

So now I must wait to see what my tutor says about my first scene. I've never been good at waiting for things to be returned to me. I think it's just my excitement of wondering what's going to be said that over rides me. Until I get my scene back I really don't want to start the next scene as I always have found my tutor's advice to be quite useful in which I could use in the next scene.

I feel as if I need rehab though. I just can't help but write and it's becoming such an addiction that I just cannot control. As I wait I am going to work on my novel I started during NaNoWriMo "http://www.nanowrimo.org"> I'm utterly in love with the novel and I really believe it's the best story I have ever came up with.

But enough with that I must leave you all to go write some more.

My Friend's Poem

I got bored and I decided to take a poem from a friend of mine (with her permission of course) and make a video using the poem along with a song I thought fit perfectly. So go check it out, I would appreciate it and be inspired to write your own poem to that song as that song is truly a wonderful piece of music.

A Little About Moi

My name is Mindy and I am aspiring to be a writer. Well technically I am a writer but I'm trying my hardest to become professional at it. I have written many different things in my life but mainly what I love to write are Screenplay, Theatre Stage Plays and Novels. I am currently doing a Creative Writing Course through Winghill Writing School (www.winghill.com) through correspondence, which I love so much. For my main project I am working on a stage play which I am starting to enjoy writing each time I sit down to write. On top of that I have a side project also known as my novel. I fell in love with the story idea I came up with, and have yet to finish the darn thing.

I started this blog to keep basically a journal of my progress with my writing career. I've always been told to write anything and everything that comes to mind and having so many memories that are written inspires me to do better. In a few years I hope to read these old blog messages and become a better person than I am now in my craft of writing.
