Mindy's Movie Reviews

A blog that went from discussing about the writing life to reviews of movies

Should I Panic?

As I type this message away, there is 10 days and approximately 15 minutes until National Novel Writing Month begins....ALREADY!

So far I have, um.... nothing planned except for a bit of research from the conference.

My mind is completely blank this year and I'm hoping my little muse comes back from vacation to help me out as soon as possible.

I'm thinking writing about a teen girl who is going through all these visions from her forgotten past, yet she believes they're hallucinations. I might have somewhere in there about her finding out she has a mental disorder which is causing her confusion with the visions.

I know sounds confusing. I hope to eventually find a more stable story line soon.

So I'm wondering.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year?

If you don't know about it, it's a month where you write a 50 000 word novel in one month. You can go to www.nanowrimo.org for more information if you want.

If you are doing NaNoWriMo, what are you planning on writing?

Leave a comment! I would love to hear from you.

Conference Ends! Nano soon to Begin

The Muse Online Writer's Conference has ended with goodbyes, email exchanges and even a video to watch.

It was an amazing week full of learning, chaos and note taking. I have left this years conference knowing so much more than what I did before along with some amazing new friendships!

The best part of the conference besides all of the workshops, chats and the creator's (Lea Schizas) reaction to the video I made, was knowing that I don't have to research much for my NaNoWriMo novel this year thanks to some workshops that fit with my story idea...YIPPEE!

Nanowrimo is fast approaching and I couldn't be more excited. I have two weeks to plan my little heart out and I will be keeping you up to date with how the whole process is going.

With that note, I'm making it final that I will be updating this blog twice a week. Every Sunday and Wednesday, so please follow me!

Muse Online Writers Conference

It's been awhile since I posted on here as I just never found the time.

Right now, I am currently attending The Muse Online Writer's Conference and do I ever have brain overload!

If you are thinking of becoming or are a writer, I recommend signing up for next years conference.

I've been learning so much from some great professionals in the writing business.

One of the most important things I am learning is to get my name out there and ways how to promote myself and my writing more.

This has motivated me to begin blogging more on here about what's going on in my writing life and some interesting articles and/or tidbits I find that might help you with your writing.

Now I must get back to the conference before I miss anything!

(More information on how to register for next year's conference will come soon. Until then check out www.themuseonlinewritersconference.com)

Koivu the Budgie

I thought I should add something on here and though there's not much news when it comes to my writing, I wanted to introduce a special little male in my life. His name is Koivu (and yes he's named after Saku Koivu from the Montreal Canadiennes for all you hockey fans) and he's my little feathery motivational buddy. When I write in the kitchen by his cage, he sings to me in a calming way that helps me get things done. When I'm misbehaving and not doing my work, he will definitely scream at me or continuously annoy me by acking for long periods of time.

Update

It's been a few months and I can't believe it's March already.

I've been working on editing my novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo last November. It hasn't been overly easy. I have never been any good at editing anything, so this is definitely a huge learning experience for me.

Script Frenzy is about to begin on April 1st. This has to be one of my favourite events I do during each year. Script Frenzy is from the creators of National Novel Month. The same concept of writing so much during one month is still applied. This time during Script Frenzy, however, a person writes 100 page script in one month.

Scripts have been my main priority when it comes to writing lately. I have always loved the film business and became even more interested in screenwriting ever since I first began reading scripts.

Back to my novel, I hope I will be able to finish some basic editing to it by the end of the month or late April if I find the time. My excitement for Script Frenzy is just getting into the way hehe.

Anyways I better get back to writing/editing.

Happy Holidays

I know this is a bit late but I'm hoping everyone had or are still having a nice holiday. I hope Santa was good to you all this Christmas and if you don't celebrate Christmas then I hope you are relaxing and enjoying your time off.

If you are planning on going out for New Years Eve please do me a favour and drink responsibly. Get a designated driver, get a taxi, go on the bus or train (that's if they're not striking in your area right now...sorry Ottawa). Just please do not be impaired while driving.

On a last note I can't wait for the new year to begin. I have a few resolutions that I probably will break by March 2009 but what the heck. I'll make them anyways. I'll post them up once the New Year comes around. Enjoy the rest of your holidays everyone!!

NaNoWriMo Update #2

It's almost the end of National Novel Writing Month and I apologize for not keeping up to date with what I have been up to this entire month. It's been a busy one full of writing and all sorts of things on the side. As of right now I am around 30 000 words and I have 7 days left to write at least 50 000 words. I know I'll complete it. I've done it before and there's nothing stopping me from doing it again.

My novel which I'm calling it 'Or Else' is turning out to be a pretty good story in my view. I didn't like it much when I first started but it has grown on me. I'm almost at the climatic part and I'm beginning to get anxious to write it, hopefully very soon. Anyways I better get back to writing. I really want that wonderful certificate saying I wrote 50 000 in a month, badly hehe.

Bye for now.

NaNoWriMo Update #1

Hey everyone

National Novel Writing Month just started on the 1st and already I'm quite involved in writing my new novel. As of this morning I have wrote 4000 words and I am starting today's daily word count of mine which should be around 2000 words on top of my total. With only 4000 words written, I am already loving what I have wrote. I really believe this new novel of mine will be interesting in the end. I am really enjoying it and I believe I might of found a suitable title for it which is "Or Else".

As each day goes by it might become harder or it might become easier for me to finish this novel. Now I must leave you darlings to go write my way to the 50 000 word goal.

Update

Hey everyone

Here's my update on my writing life. I received an email from NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) about a free one book published deal that was organized for the winners of NaNoWriMo from last year. I am definitely going to take them on their offer after doing much review on the company that is helping out.

Before I do that however, NaNoWriMo 2008 is just around the corner and I have been doing nothing but planning for my novel this year. I don't want to talk about the plot quite yet until after Nano is done but I will tell you that so far I really like my idea and see myself doing well with this.

Besides that, I have come to a complete stand still on my play that I'm trying to write for my tutor with Winghill which is stressing me out. Hopefully I'll be able to break out of it soon.

So that's all for now my lovelies. Please leave a comment about how you're doing and what not.

Progress

So yay for me. I am so close to finishing my novel that I mentioned in my last post. I have about 20 pages left to go which is really not a lot once I get into the groove of things. I'm really trying not to think about editing any time soon. It's the most awful part of being a writer, but it has to be done. I might just find an editor to help me out (I am pretty bad at determining if any of my grammar is any good).

So yes I must mention that I did receive comments back from my tutor. She said she liked my play thus far and that I'm off to a good start (this was sent back to me about 2 months ago lol). I'm supposed to write five more pages which I have already wrote 3 so I'm almost done. It has took me 2 months almost to write these 5 pages all because I was stuck on something a character of mine said and I didn't know how to have another character respond to it. I'm determined to get it done!

So yea, I think I'm coming along quite nicely when it comes to my writing career. I just need to get my arse in gear to get published which hopefully will be very soon. I'm thinking about taking more courses with screenwriting through a college online which should be loads of fun. I'm also participating in a free writers conference for an entire week in October. On top of that NaNoWriMo is going to begin in November and I CAN'T WAIT!

So that's all I have to say about my writing stuff right now. Drop me a line and tell me what you're up to.

Talk to you soon.
